Effects of Global Warming in Japan
A rapid industrialization causes some environmental problems. One such problem is global warming. The global warming is phenomenon that the earth becomes warmer gradually because of an increase in the greenhouse effect. In fact, the average temperature in Japan rose by 1degrees for the past 100 years. In addition, extraordinary weather has been increasing in Japan. The global warming has had several important effects, such as increase of disaster, want of food, and prevalence of disease on our life.
The most serious effect on our life is increase of disaster. The extraordinary weather may threaten our life. Due to a heavy rain which is above the rainfall of 50 millimeters per hour, floods are brought frequently. An expert predicted that the amount of damage caused by flood will reach about a trillion-yen for a year in 2030. The heavy rain also brings landslide. A snowfall has been decreasing and a drought has been increasing. For this reason, a severe shortage of water may happen. It will give trouble to farmer especially. As a consequence of rise in sea level and increase of typhoon, a danger of tidal wave is growing. If the tidal wave occur, there will be extensive damage at coastal city where important industries are concentrated.
Another considerable effect of the global warming on our life is want of food. As a result of sudden change of climate, crops become poor. It is predicted that the crop of rice will decrease by 13 percent in the near future. For this reason, we may have to change rice breed to Indica rice from Japonicarice, especially in the southwest Japan. The crop of apple will also decrease, because area where was once grew apples dose not suit cultivation of apples now. Area that suits cultivation of apples is moving to north. Since the condition becomes bad, the crop of matsutake has been decreasing. It was 65 tons last year. The figure is one hundredths compared with that at peak. Therefore, Japan will have to depend more and more on import from foreign.
One more effect of the global warming on our life is prevalence of disease. Because of rise in temperature, some disease which is not observed now in Japan can spread throughout Japan. A malaria is one of the disease cause high fever. The epidemic disease is peculiar to the Southeast Asian countries. There also are the possibility of a cholera epidemic. It brings vomit and dizziness. On account of the infection of cholera, many people will perish from cholera. A incidence of heat exhaution will increase. Especially old person and child are apt to have heat exhaution. Consequently, special care must be taken for them to prevent the disease.
In conclusion, the global warming is threatening to exert various negative effects, such as increase of disaster, want of food, and prevalence of disease. The goverment has already made measures to check the global warming. We also have to take steps to stop the global warming. For example, it is effective in preventing the global warming to use public transport instead of driving car. Moreover, reducing rubbish is impotant to reduce carbon dioxide which is one of the factors causes the global warming.
